Boise Airport Breaks Ground on New Fuel Facility
This November, representatives from Boise Fuel Facilities, Boise Airport (BOI), the City of Boise, Argus Consulting, and KEAR Civil Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony to launch construction of the new fuel storage facility. The project is expected to be completed in April 2027.
The new facility is designed to support the airport’s growing operational demands. It will include three new jet fuel storage tanks, truck receipt and filtration systems, a transfer main to remote truck racks located near the terminals, an Emergency Fuel Shutoff (EFSO) system, an operations and maintenance building, and associated infrastructure.
“As we’ve continued to grow, there was a definite need here in Boise to have a greater supply and storage of fuel at your facility,” said Rebecca Hupp, Airport Director at Boise Airport.
Boise Airport, designated as a medium hub by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2020, has experienced an 81% increase in passenger traffic since 2014, reaching almost 5 million passengers in 2024. In addition to the new fuel facility, Boise Airport is supporting the region’s long-term economic growth through its BOI Upgrade capital development program, which includes a new terminal with up to 10 gates and significant improvements to the existing terminal.
“It’s great to collaborate with Boise Fuel Facilities, airport engineering and operations staff, and the City of Boise to make this project a reality and to meet the needs of the fast-growing Boise and Treasure Valley region,” said Nate Spilker, Business Unit Director, West Region at Argus Consulting.
Project partners supporting the new fuel facility include:
- Boise Fuel Facilities, LLC – Airline fuel consortium led by Delta Airlines
- Argus Consulting, Inc. – Engineering firm providing design, permitting, construction administration, and resident engineering services
- KEAR Civil Corporation – General Contractor working with local subcontractors to construct the work
“Boise is one of the fastest-growing airports. With the airport, Argus Consulting, and our airline partners, we’ve created a good plan moving forward for the future,” said Lyle Aske, Chairperson at Boise Fuel Facilities and Fuel Manager at Delta Airlines.
The Boise Airport Fuel Facility represents a major infrastructure investment that will strengthen the airport’s fueling capacity, safety, and efficiency. The project will ensure reliable jet fuel storage and delivery, supporting the airport’s continued growth and future demand.
